Annual Heritage Weekend

MAY 25, 9:00AM – 4:00PM. 6TH ANNUAL HERITAGE WEEKEND

Starting with a Memorial Day parade the weekend is filled with history, family fun, and more!

9:00AM. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
The parade will step off at 9 a.m. and will head west on State Street to Nott Street then to Garden Street. It will then proceed down Garden Street, left onto Church Street and then right onto Main Street. The parade will continue on Main Street, then take a left back onto Garden Street to Broad Street. The Reviewing Stand will be on the Broad Street Green. We will then proceed north on Broad Street and cross Marsh Street to the Village Cemetery (behind First Church) for the cemetery services. Organizations interested in marching in the parade may make a request to do so by going to the parade’s website at wethersfieldct.gov/memorial-day click on “Marchers Application Form” on the main page.

9:00AM. HISTORY DAY FOR FAMILIES/HERITAGE WEEKEND
Saturday, May 25, 2019 Revolutionary War reenactors and horses from the Second Continental Light Dragoons, Sheldon’s Horse (founded in Wethersfield in 1776) and Doughty’s Artillery will be encamped at the Keeney Center. They will participate in the Town’s time-honored Memorial Day Parade at 9 a.m. and then return to the grounds of the Keeney Center with demonstrations and the firing of the canon. The Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, the Cove Warehouse Maritime Museum and the Hurlbut-Dunham House next to the Keeney Center will be open for free tours. More info!

10:00AM. Restaurants and Shops Open Early
Main Street Creamery will be opening early along with other local shops and restaurants on Main Street!

10:00AM – 3:00PM. 4TH ANNUAL SPRING FESTIVAL
Come join Heirloom Market for our 4th Annual Spring Festival. We will be featuring local vendors and artisans, kid friendly activities, gardening talks, thousands of spring starts for your garden and an outdoor summer BBQ as well as from scratch baked pies and so much more! More info!

10:00AM – 4:00PM. WDS REVOLUTIONARY WAR ENCAMPMENT
During the WDS Revolutionary War Encampment, visitors can interact closely with the 5th Connecticut Regiment in full colonial dress, and enjoy entertaining demonstrations of 18th-century medicine, open-fire cookery, camp life, marching and musket firing and music. At 1 p.m. there will be a skirmish with a dashing band of British redcoats. Children are invited to learn to march and perform drills with wooden “muskets.” Also returning is the ever-popular Big Bear Trading Company, with reproduction 18 and 19th-century wares for soldiers and civilians alike. 11:00AM. CT VINTAGE BASE BALL: LISBON TUNNELMEN VS. WETHERSFIELD RED ONION

12:00pm – 2:00pm. Book signing with Mark Granato
Spend the evening with Mark Granato at Heart of the Country, 169 Main Street. Local author Mark Granato will be at Heart of the Country from 12 until 2 on Saturday, May 25. He will first be speaking at the Memorial Day Ceremony then heading over to sign copies of his book “Stars in the Window”. See website here!

3:00PM. BURYING GROUND TOURS
There will be a special burying ground tour on Saturday, May 25 at 3:00 pm in conjunction with Wethersfield Heritage Weekend featuring soldiers’ graves.Meet at the red barn in the First Church parking lot.

MAY 25 & 26, HISTORIC HERITAGE WALK
Join Heritage Weekend by taking the journey through Wethersfield Heritage walk! The Wethersfield Heritage Walk is a three mile self tour guided by exhibit kiosks and wayside panels through Main Street, The Cove, Broad Street Green, and more! Look out for brochures at Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, 200 Main Street or other stores and restaurants around the Main Street area. Also see brochure here! Come for the History stay for the fun!
