In this 2-day intensive workshop, artists will learn fundamental techniques to capturing a likeness while drawing from a live model. By working with white chalk on toned paper, artist Scott Garder guides artists in creating portraits with a beautiful, finished look. Day 1 emphasizes a linear block-in that focuses on both the visual impression as well as the underlying structure of the skull. Day 2, artists will take their drawing to a finish with three-dimensional modeling of form, analysis of light direction, and white chalk for specular highlights. With the aid of one-on-one critiques and instructor demonstrations, participants will learn how to create a volumetric portrait in 2 days.
