August 1st – September 30th, 20 Years Later: Wethersfield Remembers 9/11
Where Were You When Our World Changed On 9/11?
The Wethersfield Historical Society and the Richard M. Keane Foundation are pleased to present, “Twenty Years Later: Remembering 9/11 and Its Impact on the Wethersfield Community”.
The exhibit will be held at The Keeney Center, 200 Main Street, Wethersfield. The hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM, and Sunday 1-4PM.
The exhibit will commemorate the impact of 9/11 on Wethersfield, Connecticut, which lost three members of the community to the tragic events of that horrific day. Another family that lost a loved one on 9/11 has since moved to Wethersfield and will take part in the exhibit.
In the months following 9/11 there were numerous vigils, proclamations, national and local news coverage, and small gatherings of friends and neighbors that provided some healing to the bereft families of the victims. The images from the day form the basis of the exhibit and tell a compelling narrative of the way the Wethersfield community began to process the collective grief it had suffered.Part of the exhibit will be artifacts collected by family members and the artwork of children and adults who were motivated to express themselves through art, music and the written word.
There will be 2 receptions open to the public: August 5 and September 10 (to which former and current dignitaries and officials will be invited as well). Both are 4-7pm.
Join the staff of the Wethersfield Historical Society, Board members and friends of the Richard M. Keane Foundation, and other community members who will be on hand during the exhibit to share their own memories of September 11, 2001.
