The Life and Work of Al Hirschfeld

September 20, 7:00pm – 8:30pm. The Life and Work of Al Hirschfeld

Lecturer: Louise K. Hirschfeld

Al Hirschfeld, over his eight decade career, became the most famous and respected caricaturist of the past century. His work defined the worlds of theater, film and the famous characters in the world at large. His style was unique as the foundation of his art was sculpture but he flourished in pen and ink drawings of famous musicians, actors, singers, playwrights and many other celebrities in the movies and the Broadway stage. The artist captured the essence of his subjects in their roles. He was also well known for his political and literary drawings as well. His work appeared in the New York Times, New Yorker Magazine, New York, Playbill TV Guide and many other publications. The film, Line King: The Al Hirschfeld Story, will be shown as part of the discussion.
