CT Open House Day

JUNE 9, 12:00PM-4:00PM. CONNECTICUT OPEN HOUSE DAY AT WETHERSFIELD HISTORICAL SOCIETY

In conjunction with the Connecticut Office of Tourism’s 14th annual Connecticut Open House Day, the Hurlbut-Dunham House, located at 212 Main Street, and the Cove Warehouse Maritime Museum, located at 533 Main Street, will open early on Saturday, June 9 at 12:00 pm until 4:00pm. The Hurlbut-Dunham house was built in the 1790s and remodeled in the 1860s. It is shown as the early 20 th century home of Howard and Jane Robbins Dunham. The Cove Warehouse sits at the foot of Main Street in Cove Park. Built in the 17 th century, it was once one of six warehouses that served Wethersfield’s bustling maritime trade.

The Captain James Francis House, open to the public only for this event, located at 120 Hartford Avenue, will also be open from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. This home was built in 1793 and was home to the descendants of militia officer and master builder James Francis for over one hundred seventy-five years.

The Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, 200 Main Street, will be open 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Current exhibits are the award winning Castle on the Cove: The Connecticut State Prison and Wethersfield; Legendary People, Ordinary Lives, also an award winning exhibit about Wethersfield’s history, and our newest exhibit, Wethersfield’s Kevin the Turkey: Photos by George Savic. The first one hundred visitors will receive a coupon for ten percent off in the society’s gift shop.

This one day state-wide event is designed to offer opportunities for visitors to experience all Connecticut has to offer in the world of history, art and tourism. Admission is free.
